Phyllis Audrey Elizabeth Gusaas (Johnston), of Moose Jaw, passed away Thursday, February 11, 2016. Phyllis was born on March 26, 1932 in Coderre, SK. In 1948, together with her family, she moved to Kelowna, BC where she worked in the BC Fruit industry. In 1952, Phyllis met Alvin Gusaas and on June 11, 1960 they were married in Kelowna. After their honeymoon, they took up residence on the family farm south of Mortlach and raised their family. Phyllis was an excellent cook and baker. She enjoyed the outdoors, discussing the weather, and yearly vacations to Kelowna. She was blessed musically and played by ear. She was a Moose Jaw Warrior fan, listening to every game on the radio. In 2003, Phyllis and Alvin semi-retired from farming and made their home in Moose Jaw. She is predeceased by her husband Alvin in 2011, her parents Edmund and Isabelle Johnston, her twins, Wendy in infancy and Wayne at 6 years of age; sister Irene Gaucher, brother Harold Johnston; brothers-in-law Albert Herron, Frank Holeksa and Gaston Gaucher; and sister-in-law Muriel Wutke. Phyllis is survived by her daughter Wanda (Kelly) Ridley, son Brian Gusaas; grandchildren Ashley, Steven, Madelyne and Elliott; sisters-in-law Inez Holeksa and Theresa Johnston; brother-in-law Hardy Wutke; as well as numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and many cherished friends. In keeping with Phyllis’ wishes, there will be a private graveside service. Della Ferguson will officiate. Memorial donations may be directed to the MJ Warriors Booster Club, 110 1st Ave. NW, Mosaic Place, Moose Jaw, SK S6H 0Y8 or Moose Jaw Health Foundation, 55 Diefenbaker Drive, Moose Jaw, SK S6J 0C2. In living memory of Phyllis, a memorial planting will be made by W.J. Jones & Son Funeral Home.
