It’s that time of the year when we do our spring cleaning inside our houses and out in our yards! Council wants to remind everyone that we do have a Nuisances Bylaw, which can be found on our website (www.mortlach.ca), and to make sure that we keep Mortlach looking beautiful and clean!
The Red bin is here! We have a new system this year with the bin being fenced in and being more closely monitored. There is an annual fee of $10.00 that must be paid at the Village office and you will receive a pass to use the Red bin for the year.
Hours the red bin is open:
Tuesday 4:00pm – 8:00pm
Saturday 8:00am – 12:00pm
We will also be getting a bin from Silver Star Salvage this year. This will help in keeping steel out of the landfill and take away the hassle for residents when taking in old appliances. Fridges, stoves, washers, dryers, freezers, dishwashers etc can be placed in this bin and any other steel. NO barbed wire.
Tires can be dropped off at the Red bin for $5.00.The Village pays for the tires to be taken away in the fall. Trees, leaves, grass
Trees, leaves, grass clippings, and weeds can all be placed in the tree pile.
We have been approached by the Lucky Paws Dog Rescue to help us in controlling dogs in the Village. The Village Council has received many complaints of dogs running at large and defecating on private property. In order for us to control this problem we will be using the Lucky Paws service. They will pick up any dogs found running at large and place them in a foster home. The owner will then have 2-3 days to claim their dog before it is permanently considered a foster dog. Should the dog need veterinarian services they will see to it and the owner will be billed when the dog is claimed. Please make sure your dogs are leashed and/or are in a fenced area.
Everyone likes a bonfire outside in the yard but please take the necessary precautions when having a fire and please DO NOT have a fire in extreme dry weather conditions. Keep a garden hose nearby, consider the size of the fire and please make sure you put it out before leaving the yard. Please keep smoke to a minimum and no burning of garbage. If Council receives several complaints about smoke in resident’s homes or yards impairing their enjoyment of their home, we may have to ban them. Having a summer fire can be enjoyable but can also become very dangerous to you and your neighbors if not done properly.
Mortlach Council has decided to reduce the mill rate from 8.1 to 7.0 for residential property and they have increased the base tax from $610.00 to $660.00 for 2017 taxes.
The Village Office hours will be changing as of May 15, 2017 to:
Monday to Thursday 9:00am – 2:00pm Closed Fridays
The Post Office will be open and available to pay water bills/tax payments on Fridays from
9:30am to 12:30pm
Have a happy and enjoyable Summer everyone!
Every day may not be good but there is something good in every day ☺
